Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu announced the launch of the Energy Strategy of the Republic of Moldova until 2050, presented as a roadmap for the country’s energy future, bani.md reports.
By 2050, the authorities aim to produce more than 80% of electricity locally from renewable sources, establish new interconnection links with Romania and the European Union, and reach an exchange capacity of 2,000 MW. The strategy also envisions creating natural gas and electricity reserves to eliminate the risk of energy blackmail.
Domestically, the Government promises grants of up to 70% for housing renovations and efficiency upgrades, modernization of district heating systems in Chisinau and Balti, and lower bills for citizens. Other priorities include green transport, electrified trains, and expanded infrastructure for electric vehicles.
To protect vulnerable consumers, the strategy provides targeted compensations and the installation of 100,000 smart meters by 2027, covering about 8% of households nationwide.
“Energy Strategy 2050 is not only about energy. It is about safety, well-being, and more opportunities for our citizens. It is about hundreds of jobs, investments at home, in a stronger Moldova connected to the European network,” stated Minister Dorin Junghietu.
The launch comes just two weeks before the parliamentary elections.
