Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova will be granted to all children born on the territory of our country. 68 MPs voted for the legislative initiative in the second reading.
The document provides for amendments to the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova to eliminate the provision according to which children born in the territory of the republic can acquire citizenship of our country only if, at the time of birth, at least one of the parents has a residence permit, he is under international protection or is recognized by the competent authorities as a stateless person.
“By deleting this provision, the bill will bring the legal norm into line with the provisions of the UN Convention on the Status of Stateless Persons, the UN Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child,” the legislature explained.
