Romania will introduce a separate sanctions regime against those who want to destabilize the Republic of Moldova. Similar sanctions were approved by the EU and the US. This was stated by the Speaker of the Parliament of Chisinau, Igor Grosu, after a meeting with the Chairman of the Commission for Defense, Public Order, and National Security of the Senate of Romania, Nicoleta Pauluc, transmits anticoruptie.md.
“We highly appreciate Romania’s proposal to establish a separate sanctions regime for those who want to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova. It was already approved by the European Union,” Grosu said. At the same time, Speaker Grosu thanked the Romanian authorities for the constant and ongoing support provided to our republic.
“I mentioned that the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has ratified three agreements signed with the Government of Romania, which will result in the modernization of three bridges between Moldova and Romania. We are building ties with Romania, as evidenced by the new Leova-Bumbeta border crossing, the first bridge with Romania built since the independence of the Republic of Moldova.”
Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly announced on June 1 that Canada is imposing sanctions against seven individuals and one legal entity (the SOR party) in Moldova under the Special Economic Measures Regulation. It is specified that the measures were taken in response to the ongoing aggressive war of Russia against Ukraine, which is a serious violation of international peace and security.
The sanctions list includes:
- Vladimir Plahotniuc (former head of the Democratic Party of Moldova);
- Ilan Shor (leader of the SHOR party);
- Marina Tauber (Member of Parliament, Vice-Chairman of the SHOR party);
- Volodymyr Andronaki (ex-deputy of parliament);
- Veaceslav Platon (ex-deputy of the Parliament of Moldova);
- Constantin Botnari (ex-deputy from the Democratic Party);
- Georgy Kavkalyuk (ex-deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate).
