A new city appeared on the Moldova map

Stauceni commune of Chisinau municipality has obtained the status of a city. The Parliament adopted the legislative initiative to this effect.

According to the normative framework, changing the administrative-territorial unit status is within the competence of the Parliament. It became possible after the public administration authorities of the respective locality carried out consultation procedures with the population and only if the locality met the criteria for an administrative-territorial unit with city status.

The commune includes the localities of Stauceni and Goianul Nou. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, on 1 January 2023, the commune population was 9295 inhabitants.
