The government sends 20 Moldovan soldiers to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The young people will be part of the mission of the Romanian Army and participate in the military operation of the European Union.
The contingent of our country will be deployed to Camp Butmir, Sarajevo. Moldovan soldiers will be part of the Multinational Battalion, which also comprises troops from Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Turkey, starting in October 2024.
“National Army contingent of 20 soldiers who will perform missions with specific tasks in support of peace operations in the area of responsibility will be equipped with weapons, ammunition, military equipment, means of transmission, and other material goods necessary to fulfill the mission,” according to the Ministry of Defense.

The authorities decided in the context of Moldova’s commitment to join international peacekeeping missions. Josep Borrell, the head of European diplomacy, sent to the Republic of Moldova authorities, in 2023, an invitation to join the operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Currently, in the EU operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina are participating about 1,100 troops from Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey. The objective is to maintain a safe and stable environment in the region and preserve a climate of security and stability.
