Renato Usatii, President of the “Partidul Nostru,” proposes that pension indexation, at least to match inflation, be enshrined in the Constitution. This is the only way for central authorities to provide real protection for Moldovan pensioners, according to him.
“Introducing the term ‘European integration’ into the Constitution is a zero-effect action. My conviction and goal is to include mandatory pension indexation at the level of inflation in the Constitution. This means that pensions can be higher, but never lower. It is a concrete legal mechanism to protect retirees struggling to survive. With such a provision, regardless of who is in power, retirees will be much better protected,” said Renato Usatii during the show “Puterea e in Adevar.”
The politician is convinced that this provision in the country’s supreme law would prevent politicians from playing with people’s lives.
“For 30 years, our retirees have been humiliated with handouts during every electoral campaign. The heating compensations are also a humiliation. It breaks your heart to see them standing in lines to receive these aids and dealing with bureaucracy. These funds should go directly to their cards,” Usatii added.

In this context, if PAS promoted such an initiative, Usatii believes that the opposition would also support it because it concerns hundreds of thousands of retirees.
In 2023, contrary to the legislation, pension adjustments were half as much as the inflation rate, which exceeded 30% at the end of 2022.
