Head of State Maia Sandu praised the record investment in local development projects. The European Village program, launched in 2022, carries out the actions. “By getting closer to the European Union (EU), we can further increase investments in villages and towns,” President Maia Sandu said.
The president noted that in recent years, record investments in the country’s localities development.
“As of 2021, the government has made record investments in local development – the largest since independence, 2.85 billion lei. Our plan is ambitious, but we have shown that it is realistic and brings concrete benefits to Moldovans – the European Village program will reach, village by village, all over Moldova. And by moving closer to the European Union, we can further increase investment in villages and towns,” said Maia Sandu.
Authorities launched the “European Village” program in 2022 at the initiative of Head of State Maia Sandu. In its first edition, it included about 500 projects on the development of localities.

Subsequently, President Maia Sandu proposed the national program “European Village Express” launch to enable localities to implement projects quickly, in a maximum of six months, which requires fewer financial resources. It included about 400 infrastructure modernization projects in the Republic of Moldova villages.
Under the National Program “European Village,” edition 2024, authorities selected 612 projects. Transformed into infrastructure objectives, they mean for the country’s localities: 1 172 km of constructed aqueduct networks, which will benefit more than 85 thousand households; 221 km of sewerage network for about 21 thousand households; 455 km of street lighting network which will benefit more than 104 thousand inhabitants; 215 reconstructed and rehabilitated public and social buildings, which means, 52 kindergartens, 37 gymnasiums, 62 sports complexes, 63 cultural houses, playgrounds, recreational areas, libraries, multifunctional centers and others.
Depending on the region will be implemented: in the North Region – 199 projects; Center Region – 256 projects; South Region – 130 projects; Chisinau Region – 12 projects; UTA Gagauzia Region – 15 projects.
