Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu met today with members of a special pre-electoral mission from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which is currently visiting Chisinau.
Grosu emphasized the importance of PACE experts’ presence, given the two ballots scheduled for October 20—the presidential election and the constitutional referendum on EU accession.
“We all want a fair, transparent campaign where candidates present their platforms without spreading misinformation. That’s why more monitoring missions are crucial to safeguarding citizens’ votes. Under the new law, this campaign will penalize those who accept or give money, assets, or services to influence the outcome. We must unite to ensure free and fair elections and prevent foreign criminal elements from deciding our future,” Grosu stated.

PACE’s pre-electoral mission has been in Moldova since September 16, assessing the pre-election campaign and the political climate ahead of the presidential election and referendum.
This week, the mission will meet with Moldovan leadership, including Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov. The agenda also includes discussions with the heads of the National Integrity Authority, Lilian Chisca, and the Audiovisual Council, Liliana Vitu, with members of the Central Electoral Commission.
The delegation will also talk with the main presidential candidates, political party leaders, NGO representatives involved in election monitoring, and media outlets.
Led by Thórhildur Sunna Evarsdottir, the PACE delegation includes Chris Said (Malta), Valentina Grippo (Italy), Laura Castel (Spain), and the co-rapporteurs for Moldova, Pierre-Alain Fridez (Switzerland) and Zanda Kalniņa-Lukasevica (Latvia).
