Key Topics Addressed in Meeting Between Moldova’s Minister of Internal Affairs and UN Resident Coordinator

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, held a bilateral discussion with Yeşim Oruç Kaya, the new UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Moldova. Kristin Jenssen, UN Advisor for Peace and Development, also participated in the discussions.

Minister Adrian Efros congratulated Ms. Oruç Kaya on assuming her mandate and wished her success in coordinating UN activities in Moldova. The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen the long-standing cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and UN specialized agencies, emphasizing their essential contributions to managing the refugee crisis and supporting reforms for public order and security.

Minister Adrian Efros stated, “We thank the United Nations for their constant support in the coordinated response to the refugee crisis and for the successfully implemented development projects. Our collaboration with the UN remains a priority, and the reforms supported by UN agencies bring tangible benefits to our society.”

The discussions focused on cooperation to support law enforcement reform, the digitalization of administrative processes, and the implementation of medium- and long-term programs to help Ukrainian refugees. The discussions also highlighted the collaboration with UN Women and other agencies to promote gender equality and to implement the National Program for UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security for 2023-2027.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the United Nations will continue to develop joint projects to strengthen the reception infrastructure for refugees and to integrate them into local communities. This collaboration is crucial in addressing the challenges posed by the humanitarian crisis.
