Moldova’s Environment Ministry and Sweden’s Development Finance Institution (Swedfund) signed a grant agreement today, valued at approximately 530,000 euros, to improve solid waste management in Moldova. The partnership will provide consultancy services for conducting feasibility studies, focusing on planning waste management in Regions 2 and 3, which cover the districts of Leova, Cimislia, Basarabeasca, Causeni, and Stefan Voda.
“The signing of this agreement marks a significant step towards modernizing Moldova’s waste management system. We have secured the necessary funds to complete feasibility studies across all Waste Management Regions, enabling us to move forward with the Solid Waste in Moldova Project,” said Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu.
Lazarencu noted that the project will involve defining locations for transfer stations, recycling centers, and ecological management facilities and assessing infrastructure costs.

“This initiative will simplify waste management processes, improve necessary infrastructure, and raise public awareness about the importance of proper recycling and waste management,” he added.
The Solid Waste in Moldova Project will continue until 2027.
