Chisinau explains the situation with the so-called “Russian observers” that led the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Moldovan ambassador

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Moldova confirmed the summoning of the Moldovan ambassador to the Russian Federation, Lilian Darii, to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) and the expression of a protest regarding the refusal to accredit observers for monitoring the elections.

“In this context, the MFA notes that the professional status of the unaccredited individuals was incompatible with that of international observers,” explained the MFA.

According to the press release issued by the MID, Moldovan authorities unjustifiably refused to accredit five international observers from Russia before the first round of voting and the constitutional referendum on October 20, 2024, in which the vote was for the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union. Before the second round, held on November 3, three other members of the OSCE mission from Russia were stopped at Chisinau Airport and were denied entry into the country despite having accreditation from the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova.
