Fines totaling over 6.1 million lei have been imposed by November 15 for passive electoral corruption. The National Anticorruption Center (NAC) issued these penalties based on reports received from the Police.

Each fine ranged from 25,000 to 37,500 lei. Authorities penalized citizens who offered money in exchange for votes and those who received goods, services, privileges, financial means, or other advantages for expressing a specific electoral choice.

“Currently, NAC is reviewing the reports received from the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) and will make decisions based on them. It is important to note that individuals who committed contraventions are exempt from liability if they self-report and/or actively contribute to uncovering or preventing the electoral corruption act,” NAC representatives state.

According to the Police, approximately 150,000 citizens have participated in the illegal financing of Shor’s parties in recent months. Additionally, President Maia Sandu indicated that around 300,000 votes were allegedly fraudulently cast during the first round of the presidential elections and the European integration referendum.
