Energy-impact products sold in the Republic of Moldova have to comply with European standards regarding ecodesign requirements. The Government approved a decision to this effect at the proposal of the Ministry of Energy.
The new ecodesign requirements apply to different products, including light sources, household appliances, electronic devices, and heating systems. The regulations aim to optimize energy consumption, increase the durability of products, and provide clear information to consumers, allowing them to choose energy-efficient and environmentally friendly equipment.
The main goal of this project is to contribute to reducing energy consumption in the household sector, as ecodesign appliances will save 232 GWh of electricity annually. Additionally, the goal is to achieve an annual energy saving of about 0.8% until 2030.

Moreover, the regulations will help achieve significant energy savings and support citizens in reducing their household energy costs.
The State Inspectorate for Supervision of Non-Food Products and Consumer Protection will monitor the compliance of regulated products to ensure that all products on the market meet the new ecological and energy efficiency requirements.
The project was developed with the support of the European Union through the program “Addressing the Impact of the Energy Crisis in the Republic of Moldova,” implemented by UNDP. Its promotion was carried out with the support of Expertise France, part of the AFD Group, through the “Moldovan Green Transition Technical Assistance Facility” project.
