The Republic of Moldova and Poland signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to enhance energy efficiency, focusing on decarbonization and improving the energy performance of buildings to support Moldova’s EU integration. Officials signed the agreement in Chișinău during the visit of Poland’s Minister of Development and Technology, Krzysztof Paszyk.

“Our centralized heating systems are technically efficient, but outdated distribution systems and low building energy efficiency prevent consumers from experiencing the benefits. With over €300 million allocated for modernization in Chisinau alone, we aim to improve thermal comfort and living conditions,” said Parlicov.
Plans and Challenges:
- Moldova’s building sector uses almost 50% of the country’s final energy, with 25% wasted due to inefficiency.
- The government plans to retrofit 0.8% of the country’s buildings annually, supported by the Fund for Energy Efficiency in the Residential Sector (FEERM).
- Over the next three years, Moldova will rehabilitate more than 500,000 square meters of residential space and carry out energy efficiency projects in public buildings.
This collaboration with Poland reinforces Moldova’s commitment to sustainable development and energy transition goals.
