Moldova and Romania have signed a new agreement to implement coordinated control at the Giurgiulesti-Galati border crossing point. Mariana Lucreteanu, State Secretary at Moldova’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), and General Quaestor Bogdan Despescu, Romania’s State Secretary, signed the agreement in Bucharest on November 20.

This agreement, the second of its kind between the two nations, underscores their shared commitment to improving mobility for citizens and facilitating the secure flow of goods.

Authorities announced that the new coordinated control system will operate as a single-stop checkpoint on Romanian territory, significantly reducing wait times for passengers and freight carriers. The agreement also strengthens cooperation between the two countries’ border agencies, enhancing efforts to combat cross-border crime.

The coordinated control system will streamline goods transportation, boost trade, and attract investments. Additionally, it promotes best practices in border management, aligning with European Union standards.
