Starting January 1, 2025, the government will increase the average monthly salary by 2,400 lei to 16,100 lei. The government approved this decision on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
The government considers the size of the average monthly wage in the economy when determining the ceiling for social insurance allowances, the monthly insured income of IT park employees, and the amount of damages in cases of legal violations.
At the same meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the decision to set the minimum wage at 5,500 lei in 2025, an increase of 500 lei compared to 2024.

The government justifies the minimum wage increase to 5,500 lei to maintain the purchasing power of the labor force. The increase is necessary to reduce poverty and combat undeclared work.
The size of the minimum wage in the country is set for a full 169-hour work schedule, constituting 32.54 lei per hour. As of January 1, 2023, the minimum wage in the country was increased by about 12.5% – to 4,000 lei, and in 2024, it increased by another 25% to 5,000 lei.
