The Greek company will support the realization of the project “Solid Waste in the Republic of Moldova”

The Environment Ministry signed a contract yesterday with the Greek consulting company Environplan to implement and supervise construction works under the Moldova Solid Waste Project. This initiative aims to improve waste management across the country. “This contract marks a significant step toward enhancing national waste management, protecting the environment, and improving citizens’ quality of life,” said Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu.

Under the agreement, Environplan will assist the Ministry of Environment and the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) through all three project phases. The company will provide technical supervision and consultancy, develop terms of reference for zones 5 and 8, and support the design and construction contractor selection. “Our goal is to select the winning company for these seven districts by November next year, ensuring the project’s efficient and high-quality implementation,” Lazarencu stated.

The project will focus on two regions: RMD 5 (Ungheni, Nisporeni, Calarasi) and RMD 8 (Briceni, Ocnița, Edineț, Dondușeni). Investments will prioritize infrastructure for waste collection, transportation, and treatment, in line with the National Waste Management Strategy 2013–2027. The contract, valued at €2.8 million, will be financed 70% by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and 30% by the Moldovan Government. The project, including its guarantee period, is set for completion by late 2029.
