Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi held a phone conversation on Tuesday, December 24, with his Romanian counterpart Emil Hurezeanu, congratulating him on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs and inviting him to visit the Republic of Moldova.
Mihai Popsoi wished Emil Hurezeanu “great success” in his new role and extended an invitation for an official visit to Moldova in the near future.
“The two diplomats reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, built on friendship and mutual trust. Mihai Popsoi expressed gratitude for Romania’s continuous support and highlighted its crucial contribution to Moldova’s European integration journey,” stated the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry also noted that the two ministers agreed to “deepen the strategic partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Romania for the benefit of the citizens of both countries.”
Emil Hurezeanu succeeds Luminita Odobescu, who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from June 2023 in the Ciolacu I Government. Hurezeanu was appointed as the new Foreign Minister in the Ciolacu II Government after securing a parliamentary vote of confidence on December 23, with 240 votes in favor and 143 against.
Between 2015 and 2021, Emil Hurezeanu served as Romania’s ambassador to Germany, and from June 2021 until December 2024, he held the position of Romanian diplomat in Austria.
