In the northern part of the Republic of Moldova, in the locality of Pocrovca, are the orchards of POCROV EXPORT FRUCT SRL, a living example of development and perseverance. “We established the company in 2017, when we started planting cherry trees, followed by raspberries and apple trees of different varieties, and since then, we have been continuously expanding,” says Vasilii Harchevici, the company’s director.
Today, the Pocrov Export Fruit orchards cover about 40 hectares, and the team of 30 permanent and seasonal employees is a living example of economic and social sustainability.
Over the years, the orchards in Dondușeni have faced major challenges, including the prolonged drought of recent years. “It was hard. The fruit was not very rich,” admits the entrepreneur. However, the future has begun to look more promising thanks to the Small and Medium Enterprises Greening Program, funded by the Moldovan government and the European Union through the Organization for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA).
The company accessed the program and secured a grant of 500,000 lei, funded by the European Union, which it invested in implementing a modern irrigation system. “With this money, we built an irrigation system for our orchards,” explains Vasilii Harchevici, the company’s director. Thanks to this financial support, the company can ensure efficient irrigation of its existing crops and double its cultivated area. “We started with 22 hectares, and thanks to this grant, we planted another 20 hectares,” emphasizes the entrepreneur.
