Ambassador Viorel Ursu will represent the Republic of Moldova at the inauguration ceremony of the President of the United States of America. According to protocol, heads of accredited diplomatic missions receive invitations to such events.
However, Trump reportedly decided to change this rule. He specifically invited Chinese leader Xi Jinping, though it appears Xi will not attend. U.S. journalists have noted that in Xi’s absence, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng or Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend instead.
Victor Orban also hesitated to attend the event despite receiving an invitation, citing “agenda issues.” Reports state that organizers invited Brazilian President Bolsonaro, Italian Prime Minister Meloni, and Argentine President Milei to the inauguration.
