After turbulence, steady growth! Moldova’s GDP will rise by 3.9% in 2025 and 4.5% in 2026

The World Bank has maintained its GDP growth forecast for the Republic of Moldova at 3.9% for 2025 and 4.5% for 2026, according to the latest edition of the Global Economic Prospects report from January 2025.

For 2024, World Bank experts estimate an economic growth of 2.8%, up by 0.6 percentage points from the 2.2% forecast published in the June 2024 report. This figure aligns with estimates in the regional report for Europe and Central Asia from October 2024.

Throughout 2024, Moldova’s economic growth forecast underwent adjustments. In June 2024, the World Bank significantly reduced the 2024 forecast from 4.2% to 2.2%. Later, in October 2024, the forecast was revised upward by 0.6 percentage points, reaching 2.8%. However, the predictions for 2025 and 2026 remained unchanged at 3.9% and 4.5%.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova’s GDP for the January-September 2024 period stood at 233.13 billion lei, marking a 0.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Final data for the entire year of 2024 is not yet available.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization estimates a 2.5% economic growth for 2024, while the IMF has forecasted a progress of 2.6%.

The World Bank’s recent forecasts highlight the stability of expectations for 2025 and 2026, suggesting a gradual recovery of Moldova’s economy after the economic challenges of recent years.
