(PHOTO) Fewer Delays and Canceled Flights! Chisinau Airport Upgrades to a New Landing System

Chisinau International Airport has adopted the ILS CAT III Instrument Landing System, allowing pilots to safely land even in dense fog and extremely low visibility.

Starting January 23, the airport officially joined the facilities equipped with this advanced system. This upgrade removes previous restrictions and significantly cuts flight delays and cancellations.

The ILS CAT III system guides pilots with precise data on direction and altitude during landings, enabling operations in conditions with vertical visibility as low as zero meters and horizontal visibility between 300 and 75 meters.

Airline crews and operators must also meet specific readiness requirements to use this technology effectively.

This certification benefits passengers by reducing flight diversions and minimizing the need for landings at alternate airports, which were common during unfavorable weather in the past.

With this system, Chisinau Airport can ensure safe operations in challenging weather, enhancing the travel experience.

EUROCONTROL member states supported this upgrade through the Solidarity Fund. Since 2023, Moldatsa has received approximately €2.8 million in non-reimbursable funding, including €800,000 for upgrading the instrument landing system. This funding represents part of the total investment required to complete the project.
