Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi and the EU’s Kaja Kallas Reaffirm Strong Moldova-EU Security Ties

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi met today with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.

The two officials discussed the ongoing political dialogue between Chisinau and Brussels, focusing on deepening the Security and Defense Partnership.

Popsoi thanked the European Union for supporting the resilience of Moldovan institutions, particularly through the EU Partnership Mission in Moldova (EUPM). He emphasized extending the mission’s mandate by another two years, citing rising hybrid threats, including cyberattacks and disinformation.

He also praised the EU’s assistance through the European Peace Facility (EPF). It is significant in strengthening Moldova’s defense capabilities.

“The European Union is a reliable partner for the Republic of Moldova. EU support clearly shows that Moldova is not alone on its European path,” said Popsoi.

Kaja Kallas congratulated Moldovan authorities for their progress in the EU integration process and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Moldova’s reforms. She also encouraged expanding strategic cooperation through the Security and Defense Partnership.
