President Maia Sandu met with Moldovans living in Italy and Spain: Subjects discussed

In Italy and Spain, President Maia Sandu of the Republic of Moldova met with members of the Moldovan communities in both countries. She thanked Moldovans for staying closely connected to their homeland, no matter how far they live, and shared the common goal of building a Moldova that is safe, fair, and part of the European family.

”To make this vision a reality, we have built trust-based relationships with friendly countries. Thanks to these ties, we achieve concrete results that improve the lives of Moldovans both at home and abroad,” President Sandu stated.

In Rome, the President announced that the Social Protection Agreement between Moldova and Italy is in the final stages of ratification by the Italian authorities. ”In all my discussions with external partners, the concerns and needs of Moldovans remain a priority,” President Sandu emphasized.

Currently, Moldova has two valuable agreements in force with Spain that directly benefit Moldovan citizens—one on the mutual recognition of driver’s licenses and another on social protection, both effective since 2024. With Italy, Moldova already has an agreement on license recognition, while the Social Protection Agreement will take effect after the ratification process. President Maia Sandu continues to visit Spain by participating in the European People’s Party (EPP) Congress in Valencia.
