Moldova to Ensure Higher Standards for Drinking Water Quality

The Moldovan Parliament has approved a bill to improve drinking water quality in line with updated public health standards. The initiative, supported by 57 MPs, was developed by the Ministry of Health and the National Agency for Public Health (NAPH).

Key Provisions:

  • Updates the parameters for water quality testing.
  • Establishes a national risk assessment system for water contamination.
  • Introduces modern standards for water treatment infrastructure.
  • Defines procedures for exemptions granted to water suppliers, including maximum permissible levels of hazardous substances.

According to 2023 data, 63% of localities in Moldova have access to public drinking water networks, a 13% increase since 2018.
