Over 86,000 Moldovans Voted in the Romanian Presidential Election by 16:30

The 86,314 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted in Romania’s presidential election. In total, about 774,000 Romanians abroad voted.

Romanian citizens in Moldova voted at 64 polling stations, which were open from 07:00 to 21:00. With just four hours left before closing, authorities may extend voting by up to three hours—until midnight (Romania time)—if queues form before the deadline.

To vote, citizens must present one of the following documents:

  • Identity card (standard, electronic, or provisional)
  • Identity bulletin
  • Diplomatic, service, or ordinary passport (standard, electronic, or temporary)
  • Military service card (for students in military schools)

The Romanian authorities opened 965 polling stations abroad for the presidential election. Citizens in the Diaspora have three days to vote:

  • First round: May 2, 3, and 4
  • Second round (if needed): May 16, 17, and 18

Eleven candidates are running in this year’s presidential race.
