On May 7, 2025, the Republic of Moldova marks 16 years since the launch of the Eastern Partnership (EaP), a European Union initiative designed to strengthen political and economic ties with six Eastern European countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. The EU Delegation in Chisinau praised Moldova’s progress during this period, highlighting the country’s efforts to align with European values and implement key reforms toward European integration.
Launched officially in Prague on May 7, 2009, the Eastern Partnership established a common framework to promote dialogue, reforms, and cooperation, complementing the EU’s bilateral relationships with each partner state. The partnership rests on core values such as democracy, the rule of law, human rights, a market economy, sustainable development, and good governance.
“These core values—democracy, rule of law, respect for human rights, market economy, sustainable development, and good governance—continue to shape our partnership and guide our shared commitment to a common European future,” the EU Delegation stated.

Although the EU suspended Belarus’s participation in the initiative on June 28, 2021, the Eastern Partnership continues to foster deeper ties with the remaining five countries, advancing regional stability and shared prosperity.
