This autumn, Moldova will take over the presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe

Starting in November 2025, the Republic of Moldova will chair the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe—an influential position within the European architecture. Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi announced this during the 134th session of the Committee, held in Luxembourg, where foreign ministers from all 46 member states participated, IPN reports.

The official confirmed that Moldova has already started preparations for its mandate. He also stated that Moldova will conclude its presidency by hosting the Ministerial Session in Chisinau in May 2026. This event will bring foreign ministers from all the Council of Europe member states.

Minister Popsoi reaffirmed Moldova’s support for a Special Tribunal to punish the crime of aggression against Ukraine. At the same time, he warned about ongoing national security threats and external attempts to derail the country’s pro-European course.

On the sidelines of the session, Moldova’s foreign minister held a trilateral meeting with his counterparts from Monaco and Montenegro—countries that will successively take over the presidency of the Committee of Ministers. The officials coordinated their shared priorities, focusing on countering disinformation, protecting human rights, and involving young people in democratic processes.
