The European Investment Bank (EIB) Doubles Its Support for Moldova: €1.5 Billion in Investments for Infrastructure, Health, and the Environment

The European Investment Bank (EIB) intensified its presence in the Republic of Moldova by significantly increasing its financial commitment to support the country’s development amid the crises caused by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Alberto Carlei, head of the EIB Office in Moldova, announced this during an interview with RLIVE.

”We increased our commitments from €850 million to €1.5 billion because Moldova faces unprecedented challenges. We allocated these funds to key sectors such as transport, agriculture, health, and the private sector,” Carlei stated.

The EIB announced several significant projects, including €200 million for a large-scale afforestation program to combat climate change and soil degradation, €12 million in grants as solidarity support for strategic projects, and €60 million set for disbursement soon for both public and private sector initiatives.

In Chisinau, the bank works with local authorities to upgrade the city’s district heating system—an essential step toward boosting energy efficiency and improving urban living conditions.

Additionally, the EIB has committed to funding road infrastructure improvements, with plans to rehabilitate key routes linking Balti, Briceni, Cimislia, Leova, and Cahul to strengthen regional connectivity.
