European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jorgensen, is paying an official visit to Chisinau during the high-level European Union–Republic of Moldova meeting. He met with Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who thanked him for the EU’s support for Moldova.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Brussels’ support remains steady and continues to grow stronger. He said joint Moldova–EU projects provide the country with stability.
The two officials discussed topics such as modernizing energy infrastructure, liberalizing the electricity and gas markets, and the importance of strategic projects like the Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line. Recean also stressed the need to advance the Balti–Suceava and Gutinas–Straseni lines to speed up Moldova’s EU grid integration and boost energy resilience.

“We thank the European Union for its strong commitment and consistent support. Our joint projects bring stability and a clear direction for Moldova’s future. We are in the midst of a broad transformation and continue to count on our European partners,” said Dorin Recean.
He also emphasized Moldova’s significant progress in renewable energy, noting that its share of electricity use rose from just 3% four years ago to 35% in 2025, with further growth underway.
The official also held talks with Moldova’s Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, and later made press statements alongside him, praising the country’s progress in strengthening its energy resilience.
Jorgensen noted that the European Union has already allocated €250 million to support Moldova’s energy resilience. The government will use part of this funding to cover electricity bills for vulnerable individuals.
“We encourage Moldova to continue strengthening these mechanisms. Moldova’s energy future lies in building a resilient and sustainable system, creating a market that attracts investment, fosters innovation, and delivers benefits to its citizens. Moldova is not just a participant in the EU energy market,” he said.
