(VIDEO) Katarina Fried on RLIVE TV: It’s a privilege to see Moldova getting closer to the EU and undergoing positive transformations

Katarina Fried discussed Moldova’s European integration, ongoing reforms, and efforts to strengthen resilience in an exclusive interview with RLIVE TV. The ambassador emphasized that Swedish authorities have established several partnerships with officials in the Republic of Moldova.

The Swedish Embassy in Moldova focuses on four pillars: human rights, the economy, resilience, and climate change. In her view, the energy crisis in January 2025 revealed who Moldova’s true friends are.

“I was proud to see how Sweden and the EU joined forces to provide a support package for the left bank of the Nistru. This package had great significance, and the authorities in the Transnistrian region could have benefited from a long-term solution had they been willing to accept it,” the diplomat said.

Katarina Fried also stressed the need for long-term solutions to strengthen Moldova’s energy security, pointing out that opportunities exist for the left bank of the Nistru as well.

Speaking about propaganda and disinformation, the Swedish diplomat noted that all EU member states are working to combat this phenomenon. She believes Europeans can learn from Moldova, especially by strengthening independent media and improving media literacy.
