On June 18, 2025, President Maia Sandu met with the European Union Ambassador to Chisinau, Janis Mazeiks, to discuss preparations for the first-ever Moldova–EU summit, scheduled for July 4 in Chisinau. This new dialogue format, expected to become a regular fixture, underscores the deepening partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, signaling a new stage in Moldova’s EU integration journey, as stated in a press release.
The two officials also discussed the status of Moldova’s European Union (EU) accession process. Moldovan authorities, in coordination with their European counterparts, are currently aligning national legislation with European standards.
The meeting placed a strong emphasis on judicial reform, one of Moldova’s core commitments. President Sandu reaffirmed the government’s determination to strengthen a fair and efficient justice system for the benefit of citizens.

With parliamentary elections approaching this fall, the two parties also addressed the risks of foreign interference and election manipulation. Sandu emphasized the importance of holding elections free from outside influence, ensuring that Moldovan citizens can determine their future freely and democratically.
