The Republic of Moldova will develop a National Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Strategy to drive the digitalization and modernization of its transport sector in the coming years. The authorities unveiled the concept during a technical workshop in Chisinau on June 18–19.
The strategy will outline how authorities integrate modern technologies into transport infrastructure and services to ensure safer, faster, and more efficient travel experiences. This initiative supports Moldova’s broader goals of accelerating digital transformation and aligning its transport system with European standards.
Over the two-day workshop, national and international experts, government officials, academic representatives, and private sector stakeholders assessed the current state of Moldova’s transport sector. They examined the system’s strengths and challenges, explored alignment with EU practices in the ITS field, and identified the real needs of authorities and citizens. Participants also drafted proposals for the strategy’s mission, vision, and objectives, with an initial set of performance indicators to monitor progress, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) reported.

“Developing the National ITS Strategy is a crucial step toward modernizing Moldova’s transport sector. We aim to build a system where technology serves people—delivering fewer delays, greater safety, and reduced pollution,” Mindra said.
In the coming months, the expert team will continue consultations with key stakeholders and begin drafting the preliminary version of the strategy.
