Driving license recognition, the economy, and cybersecurity. What else did Igor Grosu discuss in London?

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu paid an official visit to London, where he met with Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key issues for Moldovan citizens living in the United Kingdom.

A key topic on the agenda was the mutual recognition of driving licenses, a long-awaited measure by thousands of Moldovans in the Diaspora. Grosu confirmed that the initiative is “in its final stages” and noted that British authorities fully support its completion.

“This is an important step for our community in the United Kingdom. It will significantly enhance the integration and mobility of Moldovan citizens within British society,” Grosu stated.

Beyond this, the two officials discussed the UK’s consistent support in combating misinformation, governance, cybersecurity, and press freedom. They also acknowledged a rise in Moldovan exports to the UK, facilitated by a five-year extension of the tariff liberalization regime, which benefits key products like apples, plums, cherries, and grapes.

Grosu reaffirmed Moldova’s determination to follow its European path, emphasizing the country’s ambition to serve as a reliable partner for democratic states.

“We know what we have to do, and we are grateful to have countries like the United Kingdom by our side—firmly supporting our modernization efforts,” he added.

The United Kingdom hosts one of the largest Moldovan Diaspora communities, whose members actively contribute to the cultural diversity and economic growth of their host country.
