The former Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, declared that the Moldova–EU Summit held today in Chisinau marks a historic milestone, underscoring Moldova’s firm commitment to European integration.
“This summit is not just about declarations, but about our European future – about trust, mutual support, and concrete steps towards accession,” Popescu stated.
He described the event as clear evidence of Europe’s continued support for Moldova and a sign that the country’s reform path is recognized and appreciated in Brussels.

In a public message, Popescu outlined what EU membership means for Moldovan citizens: peace, prosperity, modern infrastructure, quality hospitals and schools, fair justice, and real opportunities. He stressed that Moldova must remain on its European path, which offers a future grounded in democracy and security.
“Our future is European, and Europe awaits us with open arms. Europe means the chance to live without fear, in a democratic and prosperous society,” he concluded.
Nicu Popescu served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration from August 6, 2021, to January 29, 2024.
