Romania Remains a Top Travel Destination for Moldovans

Romania ranks among the most popular travel destinations for citizens of the Republic of Moldova. According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics of Romania, 37,867 Moldovan tourists stayed in Romanian tourist accommodations, including apartments and rented rooms. The data was between January 1 and May 31, 2025, bani.md reports.

As a result, Moldova ranks 8th among the top sources of foreign tourists visiting Romania, ahead of countries such as Spain, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Turkey.

During the same period, tourist accommodations in Romania recorded a total of 4.49 million arrivals, representing a 0.8% increase compared to the first five months of 2024. Foreign tourists accounted for 19.2% of the total, with Moldovans making up a growing share of Romania’s tourism landscape.

The most visited cities included Bucharest, Brasov, and Cluj, while the average stay for foreign visitors was 2.1 days.

The growing number of Moldovan tourists reflects geographic proximity, cultural ties, and Romania’s efforts to diversify its tourism offerings and improve accommodation infrastructure. This upward trend continues into the summer season, when the Romanian seaside traditionally becomes a significant draw for regional tourists.
