Doina Nistor: We aim to double Moldova’s GDP over the next 10 years through the Economic Growth Plan

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Doina Nistor said the European Union’s €1.9 billion Economic Growth Plan gives Moldova a significant opportunity to fast-track its economic development over the next few years. According to her, through this ambitious plan, the authorities aim to double the country’s Gross Domestic Product within ten years and to reach a 5% economic growth rate by 2028, IPN reports.

“The EU-backed Economic Growth Plan for Moldova is a historic opportunity because we can invest in the country’s development over a much shorter period and achieve social and economic convergence. For the economy, this plan will help double the GDP in the next ten years and lay the groundwork for more robust growth. We anticipate a 5% growth rate by 2028,” stated Doina Nistor during the “La 360 de grade” program on Radio Moldova.

Nistor explained that a significant portion of the €270 million earmarked by the EU will go toward infrastructure modernization—a key area for attracting investment and generating jobs.

“Most of the €270 million will go into infrastructure because Moldova needs roads, schools, and kindergartens. This infrastructure matters not only for citizens but also for economic development. When I visit the regions, entrepreneurs tell me they need roads to the customs office or their businesses. But we also plan to channel support funds to entrepreneurs,” she clarified.

The minister also emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the business environment through grant programs and investment incentives, financed in part by EU funds.

“We’ll add more funds from European money to the ODA budget. We’ve already allocated an extra 200 million lei to ODA to support grant programs and expand the loan guarantee scheme. We’ll also increase funding for Program 373, which provides investment loans,” Nistor added.

The European Union launched the €1.9 billion Economic Growth Plan as direct support for Moldova’s economic development. The plan aims to help Moldova close the gap with EU member states and speed up its European integration process.
