Italy Ranks Third Among Moldova’s Key EU Economic Partners with Over $716 Million in Trade in 2024

Italy holds the position of the third most important economic partner for Moldova within the European Union. In 2024, trade exchanges between the two countries surpassed a total value of $716 million.

Last year, Moldova primarily exported textile products to Italy, including men’s coats and jackets, jerseys, sweaters, cardigans, women’s coats and jackets, and women’s suits. Beyond clothing, Moldovan exports to Italy also included sunflower oil, wheat, meslin, cables, and wires.

Conversely, Italy exported various consumer goods and industrial products to Moldova, such as medicines, coffee, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, processed leather, and cables.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Doina Nistor stated, “The results so far show that we are on the right track, but there is still room to grow. We will continue working to fully leverage Moldova’s commercial potential with Italy and the entire European Union.”

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization, currently 1,141 Italian enterprises operate in Moldova, with investments in share capital totaling approximately 1.8 billion lei. Italy ranks fourth globally among the top investors in Moldova by invested capital.

Romania remains Moldova’s largest trading partner, while Germany holds the position of the second largest trading partner within the European Union.
