Greek Court to Examine Vladimir Plahotniuc’s Extradition on August 13

The extradition hearing of former Democratic Party leader Vladimir Plahotniuc will be held on August 13 by a Greek court, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova announced.

Chisinau authorities have been in active dialogue with Greek officials regarding the case. They have emphasized the complexity of the criminal investigations involving Plahotniuc, the critical importance of his extradition for the progress of those investigations, and the significant public interest in the matter.

“As a result of this institutional dialogue, Greek authorities have informed us that the Athens Court of Appeal will examine the extradition request filed on July 24, 2025, during a hearing scheduled for August 13,” stated the Prosecutor’s Office. Officials clarified that this hearing does not mark the final stage of the process—the ultimate decision will rest with the Ministry of Justice of the Hellenic Republic.
