SCINEMA is an international science film festival hosted in Australia. Rebecca Scott and Damian Harris launched the festival in Canberra in 2000, and it has expanded from local screenings into a global event showcasing over 1,300 films from more than 80 countries.
SCINEMA’s mission is to connect the scientific community with the arts, and its selections include documentaries, animations, fiction films, and vertical clips.
In the 2025 SCINEMA program for Best Science Television Series, the jury awarded the Australian series Dr Karl’s How Things Work and gave the “Highly Commended” mention to the Moldovan format Heritage Code (Codul Natiunii), created by Sergiu Scobioala and Traian Stoianov. This recognition means that episodes from the show will be included in the festival program, screened in communities across Australia during National Science Week, and made available online via a protected link.

The Heritage Code is an original production of Realitatea Media Group, broadcast on RLIVE TV, which explores the cultural identity of Moldovans. Each episode follows people from various ethnic minorities as they take DNA tests to discover their genealogical roots, integrating the results with personal stories and archival materials to build narratives about diversity.
The project received support from the Creative Content Support Fund and became a finalist in the Pitch & Play Live competition at NATPE Budapest 2025. It stood alongside formats from Estonia and Ukraine, ranking among the three best TV projects of the year in Eastern Europe.
