Daily Briefing: What’s the Difference Between the Electoral Campaign and the Electoral Period?

The Electoral Code clearly defines both terms. The electoral campaign refers to the period during which candidates actively engage with voters to persuade them to vote for them. Candidates organize events, communicate their platforms, and seek public support throughout this phase.

The electoral period begins on the day authorities set the election date and ends when officials confirm the results. This timeframe cannot exceed 120 days. The Central Electoral Commission sets the start date of the electoral period through an official decision.

For the upcoming parliamentary elections on September 28, 2025, the electoral period began on July 14. Before the campaign officially starts on August 29, authorities will designate and register candidates for seats in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
