European projects for equipping and training rescuers in Moldova

The Republic of Moldova is strengthening its emergency response capacity with European support. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) secured approximately 2.7 million euros to implement six projects through the Romania–Republic of Moldova 2021–2027 Interreg NEXT Program.

The IGSU announced that it will direct the funds primarily toward purchasing firefighting vehicles, off-road vehicles, intervention equipment, and training mannequins to increase the efficiency and speed of missions.

The intervention subdivision in Causeni will receive two off-road vehicles, the subdivision in Comrat will receive five special small vehicles, and the intervention subdivision in Balti will receive a truck equipped with a high-capacity pump, the IGSU representatives specified in a press release. The projects also include prevention campaigns, joint trainings, and exercises that will improve community preparedness and strengthen intervention teams.

The IGSU plans to implement the projects between 2025 and 2027. The institution emphasizes that these investments not only provide modern equipment but also guarantee the security of the country and its communities.

Through these programs, rescuers and firefighters in Moldova will move closer to European standards by reducing mission response times. In this way, the Republic of Moldova is taking concrete steps toward European Union integration.
