“Since this is a conviction, the Ministry of Justice will start extradition procedures once law enforcement authorities officially notify it about the confirmed location in the Russian Federation,” said Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru during the “La 360 de grade” program on TRM.

When asked whether the Republic of Moldova had recently requested the extradition of specific individuals from Russia and how Moscow responded, the minister explained that Moldova had faced obstacles only in cases involving figures such as Ilan Shor.

“We received several responses claiming that our requests did not meet certain provisions. When we asked for clarification about which provisions those were, we received no reply. Clearly, there is a political factor at play,” Mihailov-Moraru said.

Authorities submitted the case file of former MP Marina Tauber to Interpol, asking that she be placed on the international wanted list. On September 30, 2025, a court convicted Tauber and sentenced her to seven years and six months in prison following a partial merger of sentences. The court also ordered the confiscation of more than 206 million lei.

Marina Tauber pleaded not guilty, claiming that the case was politically motivated. Her lawyers announced plans to appeal the verdict to the Court of Appeal.

She left the Republic of Moldova on January 7, 2025, through Chisinau International Airport on a flight to Istanbul, Turkey. Unofficial reports suggest she is currently in Russia.
