The NATO Information and Documentation Centre in the Republic of Moldova plays an essential role in deepening security cooperation and promoting the exchange of expertise. During the “Territory of Freedom” program hosted by Lilia Burakovski on RLIVE TV, the Centre’s director, Ion Tabarta, outlined its main activities and objectives.
Tabarta explained that the Centre trains Moldovan specialists, develops cybersecurity capabilities, and supports demining and environmental security programs. It also helps introduce modern technologies, including anti-drone systems and cybersecurity tools.
“A particularly important aspect is the support provided for training personnel in modern military and civilian structures, which is becoming increasingly relevant given the changing nature of warfare and emerging informational threats,” emphasized Tabarta.
He added that the partnership with NATO enables Moldova to strengthen its defense potential and enhance citizen protection through participation in international programs that do not involve direct military engagement.
“NATO programs also include a strong environmental security component and initiatives aimed at reducing pollution effects, which contribute to the country’s sustainable development,” noted the Centre’s director.
The NATO Office in Moldova acts as a strategic partner to the state in the fields of security, modernization, and sustainable development, providing expertise and support for training specialists and integrating advanced technologies to protect both the state and its citizens.
Located in the main building of Moldova State University, the Centre functions as an information hub for students, researchers, and the general public. Officially inaugurated on October 3, 2007, it has since become a key reference point for promoting cooperation and transparency in security matters between the Republic of Moldova and the North Atlantic Alliance.
