Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu met today, November 7, with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, describing her as “a steadfast supporter of Moldova’s European path and a true friend of our country.”

“It was a pleasure to meet Roberta Metsola today, the President of the European Parliament — a true friend of Moldova and a strong supporter of our European journey. The strong desire of our citizens to live in a free country with a developed economy is reflected not only during elections but also through our daily actions, which show that Moldovans are Europeans and deserve to become EU members as soon as possible,” said the Prime Minister.

Munteanu noted that the transformation of European states serves as an inspiration and model for Moldova — from economic growth and improved public services to shared democratic values.

“We want to offer our citizens the same opportunities, and we will make every effort to ensure that by 2028, our country will be ready for EU accession,” he emphasized.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of the €1.9 billion Moldova Growth Plan, financed by the European Union, which will help accelerate alignment with European standards, boost the economy, and improve living conditions.

For her part, Roberta Metsola commended Moldova’s determination and significant progress in implementing reforms, despite ongoing Russian interference.

“Moldova’s future lies in the European Union, as confirmed by the results of the September elections. Your country’s determination continues to inspire us, and you can count on our support in carrying out all necessary reforms,” Metsola stated.

She added that the European Parliament will now strengthen its cooperation with Moldova following the opening of its Liaison Office in Chisinau.

At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Munteanu expressed gratitude for the European Parliament’s continued trust and support.

“Modernization, raising standards, and preparing to become a European state will continue at an accelerated pace. Our future is European — and we are building it together, here at home,” Munteanu concluded.

Earlier today, Roberta Metsola also met with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and President Maia Sandu, and delivered a speech in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
