Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi attended the inauguration of the Embassy Office of the Kingdom of Norway in the Republic of Moldova, alongside Eivind Vad Petersson, State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the ceremony, Popsoi highlighted the importance of the new diplomatic office, noting that it would significantly contribute to deepening Moldovan-Norwegian relations, which have developed dynamically in recent years thanks to Norway’s consistent support.

“Our partnership truly reflects the excellent relations between our countries. The support provided by the Norwegian people has proven extremely valuable over time for the Republic of Moldova. Our cooperation greatly contributes to strengthening resilience in the energy sector — where we have made remarkable progress — as well as to economic development, and to reinforcing civil society and democratic institutions,” stated Mihai Popsoi.

For his part, Eivind Vad Petersson said that the opening of the Norwegian Embassy Office in Chișinău marks “a new stage” in strengthening bilateral relations and could be “a first step toward a more lasting presence” of Norway in Moldova.

“We are impressed by how the Republic of Moldova, despite numerous challenges, has advanced on the path of democratic reforms and opened EU accession negotiations. A stable and democratic Moldova is important for all of Europe. We will continue to support the country’s resilience through the Nansen program, in key areas such as energy, governance, education, and countering disinformation,” added the Norwegian official.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Norway were established in 1992.
