Germany will grant the Republic of Moldova €24.4 million to support the country’s EU accession process and modernization. German Ambassador to Moldova Hubert Knirsch announced the decision during a meeting with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

The two sides will negotiate and sign the funding agreements in the coming period.

“Germany will provide €14.4 million in technical assistance to support the accession process, build a strong and innovative economy, and strengthen technical cooperation for improving local services through projects implemented by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ). Another €10 million will go to the project ‘Protection of children and access to water, sanitation and hygiene services, health and social services for Ukrainian refugees and host communities in the Republic of Moldova’, implemented by the German Development Bank KfW and UNICEF,” the Government states in its press release.

The Prime Minister thanked Germany for the additional support and highlighted its substantial contribution to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, which covers energy compensation payments.

During the meeting, the officials explored ways to expand economic cooperation, noting that Germany remains one of Moldova’s main trade partners and investors. They also welcomed the upcoming Germany–Romania–Moldova Business Forum, scheduled for Thursday, 27 November, in Stuttgart, which will bring together business communities from the three countries.

The officials also discussed cooperation in education, where Germany serves as a model and a key partner in developing dual education in Moldova. Both sides expressed support for opening a liaison office of the Goethe-Institut in Chisinau, an initiative that will strengthen cultural exchanges.

We would like to point out that there are currently 429 German-owned companies operating in our country, including major investors and employers such as Dräxlmaier, Steinel, Südzucker, Gebauer&Griller, and Kaufland. According to data from 2024, Germany is the sixth largest trading partner of the Republic of Moldova.
