The General Inspectorate of the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova participated for several days in Iasi, Romania, in the official launch and first Steering Committee meeting of the MigraMI – Migrants Management Enhance Initiative project. The project aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation and modernize migration management systems.
During the meeting held at the headquarters of the Iasi Border Police Territorial Inspectorate (ITPF Iasi), participants established the structure of the joint working teams, the activity schedule, coordination mechanisms, and a common intervention plan for combating illegal migration.
The project’s total budget exceeds 650,000 euros, with 90% coming from non-refundable external funding and 10% contributed by the partners. According to the Border Police, ITPF Iasi will receive approximately 293,000 euros, the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova around 274,000 euros, and the Migration Inspectorate of the Republic of Moldova roughly 91,000 euros.
“Participation in the MigraMI project will allow the institution to improve its operational capacities and contribute to the implementation of modern and coordinated procedures at the common border, in order to reduce irregular migration and increase the safety and speed of controls,” the press release states.
This initiative marks an important step toward strengthening security and developing modern cross-border cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
