In the heart of Chisinau, near the National Theatre “Mihai Eminescu” and the Organ Hall, lies the “Mihai Eminescu” Square. The area underwent extensive rehabilitation after the art market that previously operated there was relocated to Columna Street, near the Cathedral Park and the Eugen Doga pedestrian street.

The renovation work began in August 2020. In the first stage, the trees were cleaned, the old asphalt was removed, and the curbs were dismantled. Outdated urban furniture was taken out and later replaced with new, modern elements. The project included redesigning access paths and green spaces, installing an automated irrigation system, and adding new urban furniture such as benches, trash bins, and flower pots.

The square was also equipped with ornamental lighting poles, notable for their innovative and artistic design, as well as speakers that broadcast theatrical radio programs. A video surveillance system was installed to enhance security in the area.

As part of the project, new trees were planted, including nine silver spruces and thirty dwarf thuja, as well as decorative species such as rowan and juniper. The square was officially inaugurated in November 2020. Shortly after the opening, chess tables and a dedicated children’s play area were added. To ensure the safety of children, anti-trauma rubber tiles were installed. A mobile library was also set up, allowing book lovers to enjoy reading outdoors while exploring the city center.

One year later, a sculpture of Veronica Micle was installed in the square. The bronze artwork was created by sculptor Veaceslav Jiglitchi, an Honorary Citizen of Chisinau.

The green space has never been as lively as it is today, continuously modernized over time. Following the rehabilitation, the square has been transformed into a unique recreational area in the capital.
