European Union representatives and Moldovan officials discussed support for the Republic of Moldova on its path to European integration and reviewed the country’s progress in preparing to open accession negotiations during the meeting of the EU–Republic of Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee in Chisinau. A delegation of the European Parliament, led by MEP Siegfried Muresan, participated in the event.
“We support the Republic of Moldova now and in the future. You are ready to open EU accession negotiations on certain chapters, and the European Parliament will continue to be an active partner in this process,” Siegfried Muresan said.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu thanked the European Parliament for its consistent support to Moldova, including through the approval of the 1.9-billion-euro Growth Plan for Moldova.
“A substantial part of the funds we receive through the Growth Plan goes toward investments. The Government’s main objective is to ensure economic growth and increase production capacity, including for high value-added goods. We will continue to invest in infrastructure development by building roads and bridges that will connect us directly to the European network,” the Prime Minister stated.
The officials also discussed the draft state budget for 2026, investments in the energy and education sectors, the situation in the defense sector, and the Government’s objectives regarding the settlement of the Transnistrian issue.
